Field of View (FOV) refers to the observable object-side range that can be captured by a vision system. For lenses, the observable FOV is related to the lens magnification and the selected camera sensor. Therefore, customers are generally advised to first determine the required FOV based on the size of the object to be observed, and then decide the camera sensor size and lens magnification.
In practical engineering projects, considering mechanical errors and other factors, the FOV should usually be larger than the actual size of the object to ensure that the object always stays within the observable range of the vision system despite mechanical tolerances.
